Discover The Grounds Workshop: Natural Ink Making with Katherine Rutter
Join Little Rock native Katherine Rutter for an introduction in transitioning to a sustainable and plant-based creative practice. Guests will be led through the process of making and using natural dyes from foraged whole plant materials. We’ll also explore the use of natural inks in drawing, writing, and printmaking on paper. All skill levels are welcome, and guests will each take home a bottle of black walnut ink.
Katherine’s practice explores the emotional complexities of our beings, the entanglement of vulnerabilities and tenderness that makes up a beautiful, yet strange and sometimes difficult existence. Approached through a feminist and humanist lens, her work celebrates a soft power, a reframing of gentleness as an agent for transformation and strength. Methods like using ink made from walnuts and oak galls are one way she collaborates with nature, remaining environmentally conscious of her materials.
